Toyonaka Shosenji Aikido Dojo - Hombu
The Toyonaka Shosenji Aikido Dōjō is a renowned Aikido dojo in Toyonaka, northern Osaka, Japan known for its traditional training, and a legacy of blending Zen principles with Aikido, passed down through the Shimamoto family, from the late Shimamoto Katsuyuki Shihan to his son Shimamoto Tamayuki Shihan.
Background
Shosenji Dōjō was established in 1962 within the 4,000m2 grounds of Shosenji Sōtō Zen Temple which, following destruction of Second World War air raids, had relocated after to Toyonaka from Umeda in downtown Osaka where it had stood for 400 years. In 1984 the Dōjō expanded when a new 120 tatami mat was constructed and stands to this day.
Shosenji Dōjō formally celebrated its 40th Anniversary (a bit late in 2004) and 50th Anniversary (2012) with embu in the presence of Aikikai Doshu Ueshiba Moriteru. The embu included Dōjō teachers and members of the Shoryukai overseas branches. Current members of Shoryukai Australia were privileged to be included in these embu.
Shosenji Dōjō is recognized by the Aikikai Public Interest Foundation (Aikido World Headquarters). It is a significant training center for international Aikido practitioners, emphasizing harmony, respect, and spiritual depth and has attracted overseas students for both short term, and longer term training visits.
